I was absorbing an episode of “Curiosity” on our evolution and was very impressed to the many aspects of our evolution from our eyes, brain, opposable thumb, and our capability to teamwork.  But in digesting the data I had some thoughts to add in analysis of human behavior both in the micro and macro scales.

We as sapiens developed a talent for communication of thoughts and ideas to better help us work together in complex tasks.  Our brains are evolved in such a manner that close human interpersonal connections are needed for us to live successful lives.  These are witnessed in our careers, our families, our communities, and in a macro sense our governments.  We work together to achieve our similar goals for safety, food, reproduction, and overall success of our species.  The safer and more successful a region the more genetic code is passed along to the next generations.  For millions of years the success and development of our brains and communication skills have developed to make us the apex species on Earth.

My question to all of you in review can be analyzed in both dichotomies of the micro and macro scales when looked through the prism of our interpersonal skills in family and larger governmental structures.  To achieve our goals of success, why is it that someone or group of people think that working alone, not communicating, not working as a team, not negotiating  common grounds, or networking to achieve their common goals will result in success?  Has selfishness over-ruled our sense of cooperation?

Family structure:  How is it that someone unwilling to cooperate their schedule conducive to the success of the family unit.  For instance, if the hunter-gatherer of the unit is struggling to maintain the survival of his clan in dry conditions with little game, how is it that the non-producing members of the unit demand more of hunter’s resources of time?  Is that a successful compromise of success for the unit?  In my opinion, the inability to further the success of the unit is against our evolutionary development.  One side simply demanding more resources, without any regard for consequence or compromise will ultimately fail the union.

Macro structures:  To the same simile, when the most productive members of a society are building and providing for the prosperity of the overall community and government, how is it that the non-productive members of the unit demand more compensation for their activities?  In our human nature of tribalism, we want and need for our own communities to strive to build and comfort ourselves with some degree of altruism because of our sense of success to our tribe.  Yet as a creature that evolved on a world where competition for survival was essential we know better than to trust the motivations of outsiders with our resources.  A simple review of waste and corruption in organized unions and governments provides ample evidence that these cautions are well founded.  We must be able to compromise for the success of our way of life.  One side simply demanding more resources, without any regard for consequence or compromise will ultimately fail the union.

If anyone believes that their ideology naive that it does not own its own selfishness, take a look at their own fundamental principles of religion, taxation, or entitlement.  There you will find their lack of cooperation.

ULTIMATELY:  TO COMMUNICATE AND COMPROMISE IS HUMAN.  Anything else is just against or evolution.
