Event Description

The newspapers of the day (November 11, 1918) is known as the date that the Armistice was signed with Germany to end the hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

First proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson the Armistice Day holiday was set on November 11, 1919.  There has been a long history of presidential proclamations and congressional statutes setting the date and the name.  It is now stipulated as Veterans Day and celebrated on the Monday as a national day of celebration.

Some cities and towns have parades on the Saturday or Monday close to the date.  Denver celebrated November 5 as reported in the Denver Post:

[Banks will be closed on Monday, November 12 and government offices will be closed.]

Thank and honor our veterans in every way possible.
