Currently the Aurora Public School system has 2,099 contracted licensed teachers to teach in our schools classrooms. There are 1,943 other contracted non-classroom staff members employed by the Aurora Public School system. A total of 4,042 contracted employees with almost half of those not in the classroom teaching our children.
As budgets are tightening, the threat of teacher layoffs and furloughs will prove to be detrimental to our educational system. Our public school system will have fewer teachers and teaching hours than other employees.
The bureaucracy is now out of control. Our school system needs to get teachers, students and the money back in the classroom. The answer is not more taxes. The answer is not teacher layoffs and furloughs. The answer is not taking away classroom material. The answer IS “end the bureaucracy”. We must voice our thoughts and opinions and stop the funding of projects and staff that are not directly related to teaching our children in the classroom.
The administration seems to own the union. Perhaps it is time they paid the dues.
Aurora Public School Board’s next meeting is April 5th at 6:00 pm. Come and speak out against the bureaucracy. They are located at 1085 Peoria St. A peaceful demonstration will begin at 4:30.
Aurora Public Schools next Town Hall meeting will be April 19th. The location and time has not been yet determined.
Please come and show your support for an educational system for students learning.

Vouchers at this stage of the game are not tax friendly. The money that goes to charter, magnet, voucher, etc... does not go to the proper educational institution. Currently, the administration keeps about 50% of the funds that go to general public schools. With the others the administration keeps about 75% of the funds. If they could guarantee that more than 90% of the funds go to the institution where the student is learning I would feel better about supporting it. But, to me it seems another shell game for the bureaucracy to spend more of our money.
